The US stock market closed lower on Wednesday (09/08/23) with the Nasdaq leading the decline by 1.2%, a day after data showed that Americans' credit card transactions last quarter were at an all-time high; as well as a day ahead of the US Inflation announcement which will heavily influence the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision.

All three major Wall Street indexes closed in negative territory on Tuesday (08/08/23) with the Nasdaq leading the way down 0.79% after credit rating agency Moody's downgraded 10 small-medium US banks by 1 notch and reviewed 6 giant banks including Bank of New York Mellon, US Bancorp, State Street & Truist Financial for possible rating cuts as well.

The Dow Jones and others closed lower on Friday where their average decline was limited to -0.5%, but managed to halt a three week winning streak as investors weighed up the prospect of slumping demand for Apple smartphones and the July labor report which showed new hires were lower than expected, but rising wages \ threatened to revive inflation.

Wall Street collapsed into negative territory on Wednesday, ith the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite down for a second straight day as investors took profits on five months of gains a day after rating agency Fitch cut the U.S. government's credit rating.
