Nasdaq led the way as all three major US indices reveled in positive territory with a gain of 2.43%, while Dow Jones and S&P500 posted their biggest percentage gains since last January; buoyed by a strong quarterly report from Facebook's parent company, Meta Platforms Inc., where the sentiment seemed to successfully overshadowed concerns over slowing US economic growth.

The US tech Nasdaq became the only index to close positively by 0.47% due to its 1Q23 results exceeding expectations, while the Dow Jones and S&P500 fell into negative territory triggered by a potential new banking crisis surrounding First Republic Bank, where investors feared that the US government would not continue its efforts, after the bank reported that its deposit position had fallen sharply earlier this week.

The Dow Jones, which moved relatively sideways on the long Eid holiday, posted another weakening on Tuesday trading (25/04/23) triggered by investor concerns over the banking crisis that re-emerged following the 1/2023 quarterly performance reports of bank issuers that began to come out, where pressure on bank profitability is likely to continue until the second quarter.

All three major US indexes posted gains in early week trading (17/04/23), helped by the financial & industrial sectors. At the same time, investors were somewhat restrained with a Wait & See stance, awaiting the release of issuers' financial reports and several comments from Federal Reserve officials that could give more insight into the path of interest rates.
